Dr. Davis Speaks

Orthodontist Dr Larry Davis in Peoria, AZI have been very fortunate in life and in my orthodontic career. I am originally from Detroit, Michigan where I completed my high school education. I went to the University of Tennessee to complete my undergraduate and dental school training.

Upon completion of my D.D.S. degree in 1972, I was accepted into the graduate program of pediatric dentistry. I received my masters degree in children’s dentistry in 1974.  Then I went on to serve as the chief of pediatric dentistry for the 10th Naval district headquartered in Roosevelt Roads, in beautiful Puerto Rico.

I completed my active duty in 1976 as a lieutenant commander and was then accepted into the graduate orthodontic program at Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois. I completed my specialty orthodontic training in 1978 and then moved to Phoenix, Arizona becoming the first dentist in the state to hold specialty degrees in both pediatric dentistry and orthodontics. This combination of specialty training allows me to be a recognized specialist in early treatment of children, adolescents and teenagers.

I was allows fascinated with juvenile and adolescent jaw growth, resulting in my pioneering the use of functional jaw orthopedic appliances.  I currently uses the twin block appliance to change the shape of the jaws, to correct crowding and other jaw problems to eliminate the extraction of permanent teeth in many cases. By not extracting the permanent teeth we can often create a wider more aesthetic smile while preserving the permanent teeth.

I am a proud member of the American Association of Orthodontists and the Arizona Orthodontic Study Club. I lecture on early orthodontic treatment and stay active in continuing education in both of my specialties.

Being outdoors is one of my passions.  I enjoy water and snow skiing, scuba diving and flying the skies in an airplane. I also enjoy hiking and traveling to faraway places. My most exciting trip was a recent safari to Africa where, in addition to seeing all the big game on the plains, I had the unique opportunity to get up close to the Rawandan Highland gorillas.

I have been married to to my lovely wife Donna since 1975 and they have four wonderful children who have given my wife and myself  eight beautiful grandchildren. My youngest daughter, Morghan, is currently in dental school and my hope is she will decide join us at Affiliated Orthodontics in the future.
